Imagine walking into a stadium filled with the buzz of the crowd, the smell of hot dogs in the air, and the crack of a bat sending a baseball soaring into the night sky. Now, picture all of that happening in Mexico. Could it become a reality? The question on everyone's mind is: Will Mexico get an MLB team?
Mexico has a rich baseball history, with many passionate fans cheering for local teams like the Tigres de Quintana Roo and the Sultanes de Monterrey. Baseball isn’t just a sport there—it's a way of life. So, why hasn’t Mexico joined the big leagues yet? Is the dream of an MLB team on the horizon?
Baseball is booming in Mexico, especially in the northern states where the sport has a deep-rooted history. The Mexican League, or Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB), has been a stepping stone for many players heading to the MLB, proving that the talent is there. But what about the stadiums, the fans, and the major league-level action? With the sport’s growing popularity and the undeniable passion of Mexican fans, it’s only a matter of time before a full-fledged MLB team takes root in the country.
In order to get an MLB team, Mexico would need a world-class stadium, big-time sponsorships, and a strong fan base. Luckily, Mexico already has the fans. Imagine a stadium packed to the brim in cities like Mexico City, Monterrey, or Guadalajara. These cities have the infrastructure and the love for the game to make this dream a reality.
In recent years, the MLB has been more open to international expansion. With games already being played in Mexico City, the MLB has dipped its toes in the water. But is there enough demand for an entire team? With the rise of social media and the increasing popularity of Mexican baseball players in the MLB, the fanbase would likely show up to support a home team.
The answer is yes—eventually. It might take time, but as long as Mexico’s passion for baseball continues to grow and the MLB sees the untapped potential, it’s likely we’ll see a Mexican team in the majors in the near future. It’s only a matter of when, not if!
