Know What You’re Looking For (Or Don’t!)

The first step to a successful shopping trip at Mercado San Juan de Dios is to have a rough idea of what you want. Whether you’re hunting for unique Mexican handicrafts, fresh produce, or just looking to get lost in the maze of stalls, knowing your priorities will keep you from getting overwhelmed. But hey, don’t be afraid to let your curiosity guide you too—you might just stumble upon something extraordinary!

Get Ready to Haggle

Mercado San Juan de Dios is a treasure trove of deals, but here’s the secret: prices are often negotiable! Don’t be shy to haggle a little. Vendors expect it and will be happy to engage in a friendly back-and-forth. Start with a polite offer and see where the conversation takes you. Just remember, a smile goes a long way!

Bring Cash (And Small Bills!)

While some stalls accept cards, many vendors prefer cash. Be sure to bring pesos, and try to bring small bills. It’ll make your life much easier when it’s time to settle up. No one wants to deal with tricky change exchanges, especially in the middle of a busy market!

Dress Comfortably

Shopping in Mercado San Juan de Dios can be a workout. The market is large, and you’ll be walking (and shopping) for hours. Wear comfortable shoes, a hat to protect yourself from the sun, and clothes that allow you to move easily. The market is full of life and excitement, so being prepared to move around is key!

Don’t Forget to Bring Your Appetite

One of the best things about Mercado San Juan de Dios is the food! The market is packed with delicious snacks and meals, from fresh tacos to sweet treats. Be sure to take a break and sample the local flavors. Your stomach will thank you!

Explore Beyond the First Aisle

While the main aisles are often filled with tourists, the hidden gems of the market lie in the less-traveled paths. Don’t be afraid to wander a bit and discover unique items that aren’t found in the more crowded spots. You might find the perfect souvenir or the best bargain off the beaten path!

Have Fun and Embrace the Chaos!

Above all, remember that shopping at Mercado San Juan de Dios is meant to be fun! The market is a lively, sometimes chaotic place, and that’s part of the experience. Embrace the energy, enjoy the friendly banter with the locals, and take in all the vibrant sights and sounds. It’s not just shopping—it’s an adventure!
