Trip coming up? Don’t panic. Getting a Mexican passport can be simple. You book a free appointment, bring the right papers, and go in person. Many people get it the same day. Here’s how.

The short answer

To get a Mexican passport, you must be a Mexican citizen (by birth or naturalization). Book a free appointment with the SRE (in Mexico) or a Mexican consulate (abroad). What you need (adults)

  • Proof you are Mexican: birth certificate, certificate/declaration of nationality, or naturalization letter (original). Details.

What about kids (minors)?

How long does it take?
