Start Your Day Right with Panuchos

If there’s one thing you can’t miss in Mérida, it’s the panucho. These crispy tortillas are stuffed with refried beans and topped with juicy chicken, pork, or beef, plus a generous amount of pickled onions and a side of salsa. This savory breakfast treat is a local favorite, and once you try it, you’ll understand why!

Don’t Forget the Salbutes!

Similar to panuchos, salbutes are another street food sensation in Mérida. The difference? These soft, puffy tortillas are fried just a little less crispy, offering a delicate contrast in texture. Topped with the same delicious choices of meats, fresh veggies, and salsas, they’re perfect for a midday snack while strolling around the city.

The Unforgettable Cochinita Pibil

When in Mérida, you absolutely must try cochinita pibil. This slow-cooked pork is marinated in achiote (a rich, red spice) and wrapped in banana leaves, creating a melt-in-your-mouth experience. You can find it served on tacos or in tortas, and it’s a dish that’s sure to make your taste buds tingle with joy!

Savor the Papadzules

For something a little different, don’t skip the papadzules. These are corn tortillas filled with hard-boiled eggs, then drenched in a smooth, creamy pumpkin seed sauce. It’s a unique and flavorful dish that showcases the rich culinary traditions of the Yucatán region.

Quench Your Thirst with a Refreshing Marquesita

After enjoying all the delicious foods, why not finish off with something sweet? The marquesita is a crispy crepe filled with Nutella, jam, or even cheese! It’s the perfect sweet treat to enjoy while exploring the city or relaxing in one of its beautiful plazas.
